During half term we visited Richmond a few times. There's plenty to explore in this ancient market town. It's a strange place though. A bit cold and unfriendly, with the cobbled streets of the town centre a mix of pubs, bars, cafes, restaurants aimed at visitors and cheap shops for the locals. I can imagine it being a lonely place to live. Beautiful architecture and scenery though. This is the view of the castle and town as we drove in.

A few pics of the town.

The best place, as far as we were concerned, was beside the river that runs below the castle walls. The Swale is a fast moving river, dark brown with the acid peat from the moors of it's origin. It's name shares the root of swallow, meaning to swoop and twist. There was a little waterfall running over the yorkshire sandstone. Very exhilerating.

On the way to Richmond we spotted this amazing house. One can but dream...

Next post I shall show some of the work we've had done to the house. I've plenty to say about that. Not least is the fact that the builder laid our very expensive glass mosaic tiles upside down...
[Upside down as in the smooth, slightly domed, bevelled edge down and the rough, sharp, chipped edged bottoms up. No, really !]
To try and calm myself I've been spinning silk laceweight yarn on my very pretty new spindle, from here. As you do.

It's no Bosworth, but it spins nicely. I love the colour. Very pretty.
