I've been out of sorts ! The week started with the laser removal of six moles. That was interesting ! I looked pretty gruesome for a couple of days, with a swollen forhead and rather awful looking wounds. Had to leave them uncovered, clean [obviously] and lathered with petroleum jelly, to avoid scabs and scars. Bet that paints an attractive picture !
I didn't leave the house until Saturday, when I went to an acupuncturist appointment. I couldn't have gone out looking so awful, and I felt awful too. As if I'd been run over by a truck. Apparently local anaesthetic can do that to some people. Me. Typical !
I truly did feel dreadful for a couple of days. Then Oliver was at home with a streaming cold on thursday and friday. There I was, envisioning a week of spinning and knitting ! Ha !
I still look even less attractive than usual, but have to face the world to take the chick to school tomorrow. Oh well. People will think I walked into a wall.
I did finish the Colinette socks, in Popsicle, which is a bit greener than this and nothing like the photo on their site.

I hope my friend likes them. The yarn knits into a nice, dense, soft, slightly chalky fabric. A bit thicker than most sock yarns. I enjoyed knitting these simple socks, letting the colours make the impact.
I'm knitting a new pair as I write this.

Inspired by Deb's [read her next post] and Amy P's versions of this pattern. Even went and joined the yahoo SixSockKnitalong group ! I've changed the sock construction to suit, but really like the stitch pattern. Simple yet very effective. Mixes up the colours nicely in handpainted yarn. I expect to see a rash of these ! :0)
The yarn is Posh Yarn's Lucia sock yarn, which I really love knitting with. It's in a sock club colour I can't remember the name of. Nice muted tones. I do believe it is my favourite sock yarn.
O.K., I've run out of steam, again. Next post will be all about secret pals and their superb packages.
In the meantime here's the chick attempting to foil the resident papparazzi !

Notice the new doorway in the kitchen wall, and ignore the mess.
Driving the floor to floor.

Finally I'm going to link to a story that has upset me deeply, and elicited a viceral response that quite startled me. If you're feeling emotional, delicate or sensitive you might want to give it a miss.
KERRIE, DON'T CLICK ON THE LINK. MOVE ALONG.
So, here's the story. Why hasn't this been all over the news ? Is it because she survived ? Or because she has cerebral palsy ? As a society we are surely judged by our treatment of, and concern for, the weakest and most vulnerable of our citizens.
I read this and was suddenly crying, cheeks streaming with tears, heart full of anguish and empathetic pain for this abused four year old child. And anger. The political correctness that deams that it is better [for whom] to keep ''families'' together surely needs to be re-appraised. Disabled children suffer greater levels of abuse. They are even more defenceless than other children. I can't adequately articulate my feelings about this. I can direct you here and here.
