ROSSO, ROUGE, RED.

The colours of passion and life. So many reds, from deep, dark clarets to the soft, girly pinks. I favour the deeper shades, leaning toward the bluer end of the spectrum, but can appreciate the full, rich brick shades and the beauty of a true scarlet. I'm sure that I read something about men not being able to see reds in the same way as women, other than colour blindness, because their eyes have fewer of the cones needed to see colours. Interesting how in our culture it's the colour of love.
Many have written about how one should express one's love spontaneously, not needing a specific day to do so. I agree, but also love to receive, and give, tokens of affection. I like flowers and good, Belgian chocolate. Any time !
The roses above are my favourite shade of red, and my yarn does match shades within those roses. so that's good. A second bouquet hints at spring.

Of course, chocolate is always good.

Particularly when one is chilling in front of the television and discovers father's love token for mother.

Not that I mind. He only ever has just one or two, even without an audiance. It's been a tough couple of weeks for the chick, so we're all glad to have half term week to slob.

I'm not surprised that there were no guesses as to what the red velvet is to become. I wonder if this picture, revealing a generously wide sleeve, is a clue.

Of course, it's Folly ! I've only seen one completed version. If you know of others please leave a comment.
This is my third start, and the furthest I've got. The other two were just not right. Too dull a colour, too tweedy a yarn. They just didn't feel right. I know that part of the design calls for a tweedy, heavy yarn as part of the whole concept, but that makes it more of a coat in our climate. As my thermostat is currently wonky [!] I wanted something lighter. And the whole velvet thing became a big part of the yarn choice. I'm very happy so far. I'm knitting the sleeves up to the armholes, and shall then put them aside whilst I knit the altered body. You knew I would. Alter it, that is. I'm not rectangular, so need some shaping to accomodate my huge arse [!], tapering to a definate, if large, waist, and then the girls. Ah, the girls. You won't believe the amount of short row shaping I need to work to accomodate the girls ! Why women have implants is a mystery to me !
As I knit on this I think of dear, kind Max. Such a nice man, who wrote such sweet, encouraging e-mails, and knit so well. He really, really wanted me to knit this. Finally I am driven [driven I tell you !] to knit a beautiful Folly.
Bloody well hope it fits !

I'M PLANNING

to post in the next day or two. In the meantime I've posted on the Twisted Knitters site. There is some wonderful stuff being made with beautifully dyed and spun yarn. Worth a browse.
